Reproductive Health Response in Conflict (RHRC) Reproductive Health Response in Conflict (RHRC)

Assessment of Reproductive Health for IDPs

Angola, February 15-28, 2001

Conclusion

Until the conflict in Angola is resolved and health, education and social services are reestablished and prioritized by the government, any sustainable improvement in people's lives is unlikely. Donor support is wavering, and yet for reproductive health services to improve in Angola, it is crucial that donors continue to support the international and local agencies that are working so hard to meet some of the urgent reproductive health needs of the population. Despite the lack of material goods, the Angolan people are extremely resilient, resourceful and self-reliant and they are ready, willing and able to be trained to provide the necessary social services to the displaced and local populations. Increased donor support could ensure that these Angolans receive the training and support they need to build their capacity to care for themselves. The greatest hope for Angola lies in its human resources.
